TV Junkies The sitcom / sketch comedy series that
"spoofs yet embraces" the world of television.

About the Series
TV Junkies

TV JUNKIES is Benson meets Lost meets Smurfs meets CHiPs meets Moesha. This comedy series "spoofs yet embraces" the world of television through sitcom parodies and comedy sketches packed with so many pop culture references, it's like watching a live-action version of Family Guy and Robot Chicken combined.

TV JUNKIES first premiered in October 2003 on Austin Access TV in Austin, TX. In its first year alone, it won two Austin TV Awards for Best Variety Series and Best First Effort Series. Since then, it has aired on two networks (Austin Access TV and Austin Music Network), gained many fans and catchphrases, brought many fresh faces to television, and even had guest stars (Noel Neill from The Adventures of Superman). Today, new episodes and classic episodes from the Austin television run are becoming available to watch online and download.

The central premise of TV JUNKIES involves best friends and roommates Larry Cunningham and Darryl Drummond. These two young men are total television and pop culture addicts who love nothing more than spending their time watching TV, talking about TV, or remininscing about TV's past. This constantly upsets their girlfriends, Marcia Partridge and Vanessa Keaton, who hate television and feel constantly ignored by their boyfriends because of it.

But Larry and Darryl's lives change when a new TV set that Larry supposedly wins in a contest turns out to be a trans-dimensional gateway between the real world and the worlds we see on TV. Now Larry and Darryl are realistically slaying vampires like Buffy, joining Sopranos-esque families, making Quantum Leap time jumps, solving Scooby-Doo mysteries... Larry even adopts Darryl like Webster in one episode!

At first, the idea of TV elements appearing in real life is like a dream come true for Larry and Darryl. But they quicky discover that life with evil twins, alien puppets, robot children, witches, genies, and reality show contestants aren't as much fun when real world rules start to apply to their TV situations. With the "special guest star," multi-professional TV character Dr. Rick Savage, along for the ride, wackiness ensues and there is no end to their crazy antics... at least until they're cancelled.

In between the wacky adventures of Larry and Darryl are various sketches starring the cast of TV JUNKIES. They can be commercial or music video parodies, fake TV shows, phony movie trailers, celebrity impressions, who knows? Sometimes, the cast even goes on location to a wild and crazy TV-related event. You never know what to expect. You could see guys excited for The Lizzie McGuire Movie, teenagers pumped up for prune juice, TV trivia and six degrees games, even pleas for Tia & Tamera Mowry of Sister, Sister to guest star on the show! Anything is fair game and no TV show is safe.

The result is a mix of blatant and subtle spoofs of television past and present, from actual TV show parodies to social commentary on general aspects of television (like cast member changes, celebrity endorsements, and jumping the shark). Die-hard couch potatoes will especially love all the references in this series, but it will be fun to any TV watcher to see the wackiness ensuing in Larry and Darryl's lives, plus the comedy of the sketches.

TV JUNKIES is created by André Meadows, who is also the series producer/director and one of the stars. He and some of the cast have since moved to Los Angeles, CA. Once all original TV JUNKIES episodes are released, there are plans to create a continuation series, TV JUNKIES: L.A. (Who says CSI and Law & Order are the only shows that can do that?)
